Praise for Lifted:

Here’s what people are saying about Lifted! —

Dear Lexi,

It was an honor and privilege to meet you yesterday. I cannot express my gratitude to you for letting me see "Lifted". Any words I could ever write would not even begin to explain how touched and moved I was by this film. In fact, I started to think about the film on the way home, and tears were streaming down my face from Hollywood Blvd up to where the 101 and 170 split. I actually had dinner with my family and my sons' manager and told them the story and what it meant, and the tears came on again. I thought about the film all night and am still deeply moved by the entire experience.

I know the liberal machine, for the most part, will probably scoff at anything related to the military, unless it is a psycho Colonel out for world domination. But this film NEEDS to be seen. People of all races, creeds, religions, and every other category MUST have the opportunity to experience this wonderful movie. People DESERVE to see this film, and if I had the money I'd buy the film and send it all over the planet! As I thought about it I came to realize, at least for me, this is simply a love story on different levels:

- a love story between a man and a woman, and the trials they face as a couple

- a love story between a young boy and his mother, where the son loves his mother even though she slides back into addiction, and he does anything he can to try and do what is necessary to make a better life for them

- and finally, a love story about a man and his son, where the mutual love and respect the two have for each other transcends all else, even to the grave.

It is irrelevant that the man happens to be a Marine....he could have been a farmer in the Midwest who goes to work on an Alaskan king crab boat that is swallowed by the sea. Or a man who is trying to make a living as a construction worker in Florida, and goes to work in the oil fields of Louisiana, only to perish in a drilling rig accident. Or any number of other professions. The end result would still be the same.

In my humble opinion this film has the ability to right wrongs others have committed to their loved ones. It has the ability to heal broken hearts, bring families closer together, and touch people in ways I cannot even fathom. I wish when I was growing up I had a father like the young son had, and can only hope to be a better father after watching this film.

Believe it or not there are tears in my eyes as I write this. I am so thankful to you for the wonderful gift that you have given me. Thank you, thank you again for allowing me to have this experience. I will never forget February 4th, 2010, as it will forever be a defining point in my life.

Much love,
Ed

“In one of the most controversial and separating issues of our time: the military, wars, the destruction of our young men and women, "Lifted" unifies us all through the story of the heart and the revelation of love and the human spirit triumphing over all fear and loss. My tears mingled with my joy as I watched it.”

Barbara Marx Hubbard, Foundation for Conscious Evolution

"This gently unpredictable movie, like all soulful stories, will break your heart, but it will also make you celebrate what an unshakably loving world we live in."

Barnet Bain, Film Producer, “What Dreams May Come”

“Lifted” is an ideal offering for viewing by the New Thought community as it fulfills so many points of our collective values and missions. Specifically, these include positive messages about: family, youth, healing, heartfelt spirituality, racial respect, human integrity, and an apolitical patriotic stance that somehow manages to be inclusive--with everyone agreeing that war is a travesty, but for different reasons. It is a film that will easily call forth meaningful dialogue in the community among an audience that is generationally, ideologically, and spiritually diverse. Few films can lay claim to that strong criteria.”

Dr. Barbara Fields
Executive Director, The Association for Global New Thought

“I know there are millions of people within the Unity and New Thought movement who will deeply embrace this film. Kudos especially to writer/director Lexi Alexander for her bravery in going against Hollywood’s norm … by creating such a spiritually uplifting film."

“The true patriotism and empathy it evokes for our men in uniform—while at the same time inviting the viewer into a broader sense of compassion for the entire human family—was touching and brilliant.  The ‘God bumps’ I felt at the climactic moment … were like none I’ve ever experienced before watching a film."

“The joy and excitement in the sanctuary was palpable every time Uriah Shelton sang. Congratulations on presenting such a wonderful new talent."

“I have great faith in your success with the introduction of Unity Cinema Network. I celebrate your pioneering spirit … and look forward to supporting your efforts to join together in transforming our world with love.”

Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell, The Unity Center, San Diego

“To Whom it May Concern,

“I am the Director of Development at Unity In Marin spiritual center and co-founder of New Thought Productions, a Bay Area event production company dedicated to producing large-scale events that illuminate, educate, and celebrate our oneness.  My partner and co-founder Sue Rouda, who is also the Events Director at Golden Gate Center for Spiritual Living, and I were invited by GATE founder John Raatz to come to a screening in LA last week of the Lexi Alexander film, ‘Lifted’.

“We bought two plane tickets and booked the Culver Hotel right next to the lot.  As we left the free screening, we realized that in reality it was the most money we have ever paid to see a film…about $500 each.  Unanimously, we agreed that it was MORE than WORTH it.

“’Lifted’ is the most wholly American, deeply patriotic film I have ever seen – yet it subtly and powerfully reminds us of the true price of war and the toll of capitalism on the American family.  All the while, this touching film manages to masterfully avoid overt political or religious references in favor of focusing on humanistic values and transformative experiences, captivating and entertaining us all the while.

“But it is the story that is the true winner here.  It is a story of family, of community, innocence, overcoming, and of unconditional love.   The original music, singing (wow), and the talented cast shook us to tears of joy and to tears of sorrow and back again - and then finally the tears that come when one realizes that they have just experienced a profound and extraordinary work of art.

“This film is part of what we believe – rather - that we KNOW is a movement away from gratuitous entertainment to transformational entertainment and we were quite surprised frankly, especially with movies like ‘The Blind Side’ getting the recognition that they are, to learn that it has not been picked up for international distribution.

“Please consider that we would like support this film in any way possible – whether that be to promote and produce a screening(s) event here in the San Francisco Bay Area or to advocate for distribution and/or promotion to the network of Unity Churches and Centers for Spiritual living, with which we have very close ties and significant influence.

“We believe that there is an enormous appetite in the main stream and spiritual communities for this film and we are prepared to put our resources behind that stance.”

Sincerely,
Joshua Holmes, Director of Development, Unity In Marin
